Bruce Wayne is at a meeting in Brazil, when he hears that people are disappearing from the local villages, apparently victims of a legendary giant bat--but when Batman investigates he finds Man-Bat and Poison Ivy, and must find a way to stop them, and still come up with a plan to accomplish Ivy's goal of protecting the rainforest from destruction.

This reader follows the adventures of Batman and the last members of the Green Lantern Corps as they battle Despero for the lives of the Green Lanterns and the fate of the planet.

Parallel story to Ender's game. An orphan named Bean is found on the streets of Amsterdam and taken to Battle School, where he becomes both friend and rival to Ender Wiggin.
