Owen and his friends decide that spying on the school principal at his own house will be a fun challenge.

After their mother sets up a new list of household chores for them to do, Sophie and her siblings argue about housekeeping and finally go on strike.

First-grader Posey is concerned that her spring vacation will be boring compared to her friends' travels, but her mother's plan to take each day as it comes turns out to be full of excitement.

When she doesn't get the lead in the class play, Posey does something mean and needs a lot of help from her tutu to admit what she did.

"Sophie, 10, doesn't want to turn into a moody teenager like her older brother and sister, and she certainly doesn't want to see The Movie (about gross adolescent body changes) at school. On the other hand, she doesn't want to be considered immature by her classmates"--

Posey's fear of starting first grade is alleviated when her teacher invites the students to wear their most comfortable clothes to school on the first day.

When she is invited to a "pig pickin'," Hildy believes it is a contest to pick the prettiest pig and she hurries down south to enter, accompanied by her good friend Moose, who soon discovers just how wrong she is.
