With the Great Kyoto fire behind them, Kenshin and crew consider their next move. Though the Oniwabanshu are allies, their leader is not. Kenshin may be the only one who can bring peace to the Okashira of the Kyoto-based spy group. And Shishio Makoto has made his own plans for Kenshin and the others.

As the Ten Swords move to attack Kaoru and the other Kyoto-based spies at Aoi-Ya, Kenshin, Sansuke, and Saitô square off against Shinomori Aoshi, former head of the Oniwabanshû, fighting for the freedom of Misao's Aoshi-sama.
