Holi, also called the festival of sharing and love or the festival of colors is a two day Hindu festival marking the arrival of the annual Spring harvest season and the end of winter. The Holi festival traditionally celebrates the victory of good over evil. Many Hindus believe that this holiday shows that the devotion of Hindu people can augment the power of Lord Vishnu. This celebration also honors Lord Krishna, a reincarnation of Lord Vishnu. Holi for the year 2024 is celebrated/observed on sundown of Sunday, March 24th ending at sundown on Monday, March 25th. The first day of the festival is called Holika Dahan or Chhoti Holi and the second day is called Dhuleti or Rangwali Holi. People arrange a bonfire after sunset on Holika Dahan (the first day) and celebrate Holi by playing with colors--splashing water and smearing each other with colors and relishing sweets like Gujiya.
